Does the oil have to be topped up?

To avoid any incident, it is advisable to check oil level in your vehicle engine on regular basis. It is normal that a small quantity of the oil circulating in the engine burns as a well running engine can consume between 0.2 and 0.5 liters of oil every 1000 km. However, successive top-ups can in no means replace a full oil change.

While it is normal for an engine to consume a small amount of oil, which is offset by regular top-ups between oil changes, the excessive need for top-ups can indicate problems such as:

  • unsuitable type lubricant: too fluid, too volatile or damaged;
  • driving of the motorist;
  • mechanical condition of the engine;
  • weather conditions.
